Holt and Baxter are our Detectives on the case. The detectives have a history. She has feelings for her partner but wants a professional relationship.
There is a trail for a previous case going through the court and Baxter has some demons to fight when it comes to her partner.
I really like this duo. Laura is a smart perceptive woman. The story is really interesting and the writing style is unique. I would definitely read another book by this author.
My date is 28th September. Dec 23, Brenda rated it liked it. Nov 17, Coco. Her lips were parted slightly, as if she were breathing gently while dreaming of something only she knew.
Detectives Laura Baxter and Jack Holt are members of the elite: The girl When a beautiful, young girl is killed in the high-roller pleasure pit of the exclusive Scala Casino, the news reverberates for hours among the ritzy clientele.
Sep 26, Sherry Fundin rated it really liked it Shelves: Laura has secrets, but not for the reasons you may think. It was too difficult to talk about.
How long before she will need to share it with Holt, her partner? We have two mysteries going on and they will both be solved.
We also have two damaged characters that hesitate to share their baggage, but we all know they will, sooner or later. I love Holt, after I find out how far he will go to protect his pa Laura has secrets, but not for the reasons you may think.
I love Holt, after I find out how far he will go to protect his partner. I wonder, will they hook up. I think they would be perfect together.
The case was never closed, but she had stopped looking…until she found HIM. How far did she go? Someone knows something and Laura is being blackmailed.
She feels all she has is her job, and must find a way out of the mess she finds herself in. No one to turn to, she must solve the problem on her own.
So many suspects and Leslie Wolfe does not give it up easily. The mystery and suspense keep on giving and I eliminate the suspects one by one, until there is no doubt.
She is a deep character and I love it when a character is more than they appear to be. Casino Girl is more that I thought it would be, two mysteries for the price of one.
I love that it is a stand alone novel, though there is a lot more to the series and, after reading Casino Girl, I would love to know all the wonderful details of the other adventures.
After all, what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, so we must visit to get the details. And the characters, I love when they surprise me and Leslie Wolfe threw in some good ones.
Vigilante justice raises questions and tweaks my thought process, but hey, sometimes justice does need a little help.
See more at fundinmental Sep 27, Pat rated it really liked it. Another great book by the talented Leslie Wolfe. An exotic dancer at a top Las Vegas casino dies one night during her dance act.
She wobbles and slowly sinks to the ground. There are no wounds, she is young and healthy and there is no sign on an injection site or any other indication of how she died.
Baxter and Holt are on the case and soon ruffle feathers. There are some very wealthy and powerful people in the mix and everyone seems to be lying about something.
Through it all the dogged crime fighting team continue their relentless pursuit of the killer. I think the first book Las Vegas Girl was slightly stronger but this is still a strong four stars.
Although the Baxter and Holt characters get further developed I feel there is still a lot more to come.
Sep 23, Jim Crocker rated it it was amazing. One thing I wonder about: If so, send me one for my "collection. JIM in MT www.
Oct 27, Heather Martin rated it it was amazing. This book and series is very much a police procedure, but a tangled one of imperfect people who find themselves pulled in many directions while trying to also do their job.
Many times through both books I thought Baxter made some poor choices because she responds emotionally and immediately to situations instead of stopping to consider all the other options available to her.
Most of the time this works out for her but many times it puts her at having a new situation to clean up. Baxter is very secretive and has trust issues, which is not changed in this book though Holt is going to force the issue.
Both Baxter and Holt are good detectives for the most part, though their lines of right and wrong are blurred.
As with the first book, the murder and detective work is very well done. Multiple times in the story. She needs to get over herself.
Plus, get it together and quit taking up storytime from solving all the things happening in the book… lol, well, anyway, just my opinion.
Sep 15, Mike Nemeth rated it it was amazing. And "Casino Girl," the second in her series on Laura Baxter and Jack Holt, hits all the mystery-thriller endorphin triggers in my big fat head.
It starts with the almost seductive death of a dancer in a posh casino. She dances as background while high rollers with deep pockets lose money all around her.
Baxter and Holt get the investigation, which is determined to be a murder even though the cause of her death remains a mystery early on.
Still, the pair make somebody angry. Clues are hard to come by, and lies keep the detectives guessing. Internal Affairs is certain Holt is dirty and wants her to deliver him with the goods.
I plowed through this one, enjoying the experience the entire way. Nov 24, Kevin rated it it was ok. The author plays a lot of tease-and-wait with both current events and references to past events as she winds the reader through a complicated -- at times unnecessarily complicated -- plot.
I seem to be in the minority here, which is fine. I found that the good aspects of the book could not counter-balance the problems.
Nov 01, Voracious Reader rated it it was amazing. Although it is second in series I think it could be read as a standalone.
In this book Baxter and Holt as well as the M. Wolfe always seems to come up with a different method for her murderers to kill.
I enjoy her books immensely and look forward to her next entry in any of her series, in fact I have already preordered the next Baxter and Holt book.
She has never disappointed me. Oct 20, Sherry Vaughan rated it it was amazing. Detectives Baxter and Holt are called to investigate the suspicious death of a young exotic dancer.
As they start looking into her death, things begin to unravel revealing a tale of jealousy and deceit, billionaires betrayed, and, at the center of it all, a cold and crafty monster.
A portrayal of young love quashed, this is a well-crafted story with plenty of surprises around every corner. There is a slight cliffhanger which I think may become the Sword of Damocles always threatening but never falling.
Another tour-de-force by Ms. Casino Girl was an excellent book: Entertaining characters, fast pacing, a murder with multiple suspects, and two Las Vegas cops who are new partners with sizzling chemistry.
What more do you want in reading entertainment? It was just as good or even better than the first in this three part series, Las Vegas Girl.
This is the 2nd case Holt and Baxter are working together. They are getting to know each other and they are learning they both are keeping secrets.
The crime and the dialogue keep you Casino Girl was an excellent book: There are a lot of good writers out there, particularly in crime fiction.
Leslie Wolf definitely has a new fan, and so does Kindle Unlimited. Casino Girl by Leslie Wolfe has everything I love in a thriller.
Its non-stop twists, endless suspects, and perfect narration. I could hear exactly who was talking in this book. Gwendolyn Druyor added the right emotions to this book, and gave the various characters distinguishable voices.
I loved how this book was more than just a murder of a casino girl. The Internal Affairs aspect added to the plot. I enjoyed the relationship of Laura and Holt.
I did not guess who the killer was in this book! Well done Leslie Wolfe! I received this review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily written this review.
I will definitely listen to more books by this author and narrator. Sep 06, Arthur Okun rated it it was amazing. Baxter and Holt are a perfect "Detective Pair".
Killing a eighteen year old girl was unfair because she was full of life. Struggled to add an education and found the only work that paid well.
And her only mistake was to fall in love. A won Baxter and Holt are a perfect "Detective Pair". And I just think Laura Baxter,Detective is a super character.
A good mystery with many suspects and surprises. This is a good mystery. Laura Baxter is strong and has a wide range of skills to perform her job.
At times, she acts like a vigilante. Her partner, Jack Holt is a recovering addict. Together they investigate a murder of a Vegas stripper. Many of the suspects are very wealthy and powerful.
For the most part, I really enjoyed it. There were two parts I thought were far-fetched. I will not say what they are, because I am no spoiler. Despite those A good mystery with many suspects and surprises.
